9. Where to Find Supplies

The books below are the two core books we use in Parents of Teens classes. You will be reading aloud from both.

  1. Parenting Today's Adolescent can be found here on the Family Life website or here on Amazon. Compare both places, as Family Life sometimes offers specials on this book.

  2. Boundaries with Teens can be found here on Amazon.

  3. Folders you will make for your parents can be found at Walmart, Target, etc. Buy a few more than your RSVP's reflect in case your class grows larger.

  4. If you choose to make Parents of Teens labels for the outside of the folders, the labels are made by Avery. You can find them at Walmart, Target, etc.

10. Preparing Your Welcome Table

A welcome table is the place you choose to have parents check in before the meeting begins. The document below offers suggestions regarding the welcome table.

ATTENDANCE / CONTACT INFORMATION SHEET: DOWNLOAD

11. Book Table (Optional)

As your moms sign attendance and prepare for you to begin the meeting something to offer them is a simple table holding the core books you will be using for the class.

You may find as you facilitate that you acquire more books from Family Life or other books you have found as resources on the Parents of Teens website. Perhaps you have a few books on a variety of parenting or marriage topics. The purpose is not to sell the books but to offer ideas for resources your parents may want to acquire to address their family issues.

This is not a necessity but a additional resource if you so decide. It is one way to put more tools in the hands of parents.

12. Hospitality

Parents of Teens is remembered by past participants as a warm and welcoming place to be. Hospitality plays a role in that.

When class members arrive at the first meeting and sign the Attendance form the next thing to invite them to do is put down all of their gear, shed the stresses of the morning (or their day if it is an evening class) and come into your kitchen or to a hospitality table for coffee or iced tea. Even a pitcher of ice water and a fresh flower in a small vase is welcoming.  This is where parents who do not know each other meet and begin to form a friendship, the beginning of the support that comes through Parents of Teens.

Use your gift of hospitality or enlist the help of a friend to have coffee or something cold to drink and go from there.
