False Gods

Do not worship any other gods besides me. - Exodus 20:3

Having a false god means allowing something in one’s life that takes an unhealthy amount of attention and, more importantly, can prevent one from focusing on and growing in a relationship with the one true God. Many of them are good things, yet can be a distraction from growing in a relationship with God.

SEVEN POSSIBLE FALSE GODS

  1. Self
  2. Popularity
  3. Success/achievement
  4. Approval from the opposite sex
  5. Appearance
  6. Entertainment
  7. Consumption/Materialism

The number one thing a parent can do to help their child through the teen years and into adulthood is to help him establish and develop a relationship with God. - Dennis and Barbara Rainey
